Bobota

Bobota

Having a surface of 63,48 square kms, Bobota is situated in the hilly part of the Marginal Salejan Platform, at the contact point of the Toglaci Hills with the Crasna Couloir and the Salejan Piedmont. The commune's central village is Bobota, situated at 35 kms distance from Zalau city. The other two component villages are Dersida and Zalnoc.

The central village was attested documentary in the year 1213 under the name of villa Babud. The other villages were mentioned a few years later, Dersida in 1349 and Zalnoc in 1327.

According to the last census the population of the commune counts 4031 inhabitants of which 85,61% are Romanians, 0,91% Hungarians, 13,32% Roms and 0,16% other nationalities.

The economy of the commune is prevalent agricultural, based on cultivation of plants. Over 65% of its agricultural territory occupy the arable lands. Besides we have to mention the vineyards (approx. 137 ha) and the good quality of the vine produced here. Due to the reserves of lignite we can speak about the development of mining, branch of economy present in the commune since 1919. The development of this economical activity is reflected in the urban structure of the places.

Due to the sulphuretted mineral springs in Zalnoc with their well-known healing power the commune should become an important touristic and balneologic centre. The most interesting touristic spectacles are the wooden church "Sfintii Arhangheli" in Dersida, historical and architectural monument dated from the year 1700, and the wooden church with the same name in Zalnoc built in the same period. We have to mention here the names of Gheorghe Sincai and Corneliu Coposu. The Sincai - Coposu cultural centre and the well named Gheorghe Sincai are two anthropic spectacles that shouldn't be avoided.
